PROVIDENCE - Councilman John J. Lombardi announced yesterday – (Monday, March 8; prior to Mayor David Cicilline’s 2 PM press conference) that he will introduce three City Council resolutions to address the current law enforcement and leadership crises impacting Providence. In addition, he will recommend Council investigatory action, and propose a new policy for the Providence Police Department’s Undercover Drug/Organized Crime unit.

Fri, 03/05/2010[PROVIDENCE] Councilman John J. Lombardi (D – Ward 13) today called for the immediate creation of an independent civilian body to investigate charges of involvement by Providence Police Department officers in a large-scale drug ring, and to determine the circumstances surrounding the recent arrest and alleged beating of Luis Mendonca by PPD officers.
